Why You Need to Use Psychology in your Service Business

One absolute essential for any entrepreneur, in any business, is to understand both human psychology, as well as the psychology of the consumer.
That’s the “what makes them tic” part that drives people to seek your services.  And understanding psychology in general will set you above many a competitor.

Your Management Style

For example, some entrepreneurs are warm and encouraging with clients while others may take a more authoritative approach.  Some clients need a soft touch – and some get nowhere without “tough love”. One great example of this is a fitness trainer.  A great trainer understands the difference between the two approaches; understands which style they excel in and which each client needs, as well as when to switch between the two.  In fact, a great trainer usually has to provide both.
Know your own motivations before becoming an owner of any service business.  Be honest about them.
You need to know exactly why you’re taking certain actions:  And what you hope to accomplish.  Bottom line: You need to be client-centered – all about what’s best for the client.

Invest in Training

Investing in business training can help you understand your customers and how to motivate them to purchase your service,  benefitting both yourself and your client.  And knowing how to do this will add to your Irresistibility Factor.

Ironically, it is the physical-action-oriented discipline of sports and fitness that often presents the best psychological insights and resources:  Where a Business Coach may (mistakenly) focus primarily on money-making potential, a Sports Coach knows that all athletes have to find that ultimate tweak that sets them one-hundredth of a second faster than anyone else; having to overcome pain, injury and sometimes embracing a radical change of lifestyle.  That takes psychology.

Be Irresistible

As for yourself, it’s those minor tweaks – the “sports coach” type of commitment to finding the smallest edge, motivation, reason, explanation et cetera that will give you the edge over your particular “running field”.  So read, view, and listen to everything you can in your quest to become a better service provider for your particular customer.
Let’s be blunt here:  You can fake a lot of things in business – and there is certainly nothing wrong with growing along with your business.  But, you can’t fake your passion for the service you provide. And – don’t ever under-estimate this – it is that obvious love of your business, combined with a true enjoyment of providing what your audience needs that will make you the most irresistible type of service provider possible.
